Learning to wait
Waiting is not easy. It is one of the hardest things to learn. However, it is important that we learn to wait. A mother suffers months of inconvenience before her baby can be born. Studying requires years of sacrifice. It takes time and effort to solve the problems of life. Almost everything in life requires waiting.
Joseph is a great example of the importance of learning to wait. Being young, God gave him dreams in which Joseph would be put in a place of preeminence. However, his wait was not easy.
- He was sold as a slave.
- God made him successful even while he was in slavery (Gen. 39:2)
- He was imprisoned for being faithful to God (Gen. 39: 9,20)
- God was with him and gave him favor while in prison (Gen. 39:21)
- It took two years before he was released from prison (Gen. 41:1)
Joseph waited 13 years for his dreams to come true, and as a result, he became second in power over all of Egypt (Gen.41 38-44). His waiting process was not easy, but he kept trusting God. Joseph experienced suffering, but he also experienced God. In his ups and downs, we see that God was always with him. Joseph could have been tempted to take the easy way out in order to “help God’s purpose“, but he decided to stay faithful, to trust, and to wait.
Waiting on God requires total trust. Perhaps, God can make the process easier, but the way we experience God in times of trials helps us value victory even more.
Be patient. Wait with confidence. God’s plan for your life will be fulfilled.
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds… that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. – James 1: 2-4
