Perspective
I like watching the news in order to keep up to date with the things happening in the world. Unfortunately, many of the news we receive are not good. We are informed about personal, national and global tragedies.
Tragedies could affect us in two ways: as victims or as criminals, either directly or through a family member. Have you been affected by a tragedy? You may have the blessing that a tragedy has not touched you personally, but even if this was the case, our perspective must change. Both victim and the criminal are someone else’s children. Both were at some point harmless creatures that were totally dependent on their parents.
It is easy to identify with the victim’s pain. But how about the criminal? Well, if it’s my son or daughter, things would be different. Sadly, a life turn can change the circumstances, and you could see your son or daughter needing to receive mercy. If this was the case, our eyes would not see an adult who committed a crime, but the child who we once held in our arms. That is the way that God sees us.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. – Luke 19:10
It was for those who were lost that Jesus gave his life on the cross. It was for me and for you. For victim and criminal equally. We are all equally qualified as sinners. We were all sentenced to death. However, we have all been equally chosen to receive his mercy.
As a recipient of such undeserved love, how should I see those who have not yet received it? We have to try to see things from God’s perspective. Victim or criminal, Jesus died for both. What am I going to do about it?
